time to party

I find diversifying party outfits harder than day wear. especially if you go out often, it gets hard to put together something each time that doesn't feel dated. here are three ideas I've been thinking about lately:

transform a simple strapless little black dress into a flamboyant option by adding chunky jewelry, colorful pumps and matching nails.

pair a sparkly mini dress with black opaque tights and round-toe black pumps for a retro glam appeal. this instant leg-slimming and lenghtening trick will make the dress stand out even more.

get bold: glam up a jewel-colored dress by pairing it with accesories in contrasting & complementing colors. the trick to look fascinating, not wacky is to go for riper hues.

old soul, new heart

today I accidentally came across a handcrafted accesory line named old soul, new heart, which seemed to me like a perfect way to brighten up a dull outfit and also brighten up your day.
the line, which consists of hair accesories, necklaces, belts and bracelets, has a distinctive style - quirky, playful, girly, bold. very gossip girl, a bit teen vogue, a bit park avenue princess, definitely retro. "throw on one and you're party-ready" kind. I just can't stop looking at the lookbook. also, the pieces are named in a way that puts a smile on your face!

behind the line, there's mother/daughter duo tamara & shea. (seems like the freshfaced, gorgeous model in the photos is shea. if she isn't a professional model already, I think she should think about becoming one. it's not a face you came across everyday.)

take a look at my favorites:

twelve by twelve resort '10 lookbook: paris, je t'aime!

twelve by twelve resort 2010 collection has truly amazed me. it has the parisienne theme all over it. the collection features three gorgeous sections including "french revolution", "blvd. saint germain" and "paris rocks".
can you tell I'm obsessed with parisian chic?

french revolution: "with all the pomp and circumstance worthy of the world's most decorated officers, we celebrate with tiers of taffeta ruffles, shaped double-breasted silhouettes, brass buttons and beautiful ornate trims all in the colors of the national flag of france. from the arc de triomphe to the grandest cities of the world with style!"

blvd. saint germain: "from the fashion houses of paris along the most beautiful streets of the world comes the elegance and chic borne of the city of lights. softened by lace, chiffon ruffles, and pleats... the classics of cafe society."

paris rocks: "she exudes star quality with an edge. clearly comfortable from street style to stage her eighties vibe rocks glammed up casual with big chunky stones, giant hardware, cut outs, and fringe... euro chic with attitude!"

combination of torn, rough textures with sparkly details creates a distressed but still hopeful spirit, which reminds me of the chapter called "spleen and ideal" from charles baudelaire's flowers of evil.

rodarte for target lookbook

following the high/low collaboration trend, rodarte recently designed a collection for target. I guess I'm a bit late covering this, since the line was launched in december 20th, but I find the lookbook very inspirational, so I don't care if it's been over one month or one decade since it's out.
I really like this "lovechild of morticia adams and alexa chung, wearing thrift store head to toe" look. I think it has a lot of special "star" pieces that you can go any way with and look remarkable in each of them. the collection has an adorable thrift store/vintage appeal, and the eclectic glow in it.

for the collection, rodarte also collaborated with 13-year-old blogger tavi gevinson (of style rookie). rodarte's sister/designer duo kate and laura mulleavy said she "defines rodarte for target."

bright kid tavi wearing a dress from the collection. I truly respect and admire her a lot, especially after thinking of my 13-year-old self. believe me, you don't wanna know.
