trend alert: boots & bare legs

one trend has been catching my eye a lot lately: chunky ankle boots worn with mini dresses and short shorts over bare legs. I love how it adds a rock chic appeal to any outfit and makes legs look sky-high. while waiting for the appropriate weather, I browsed through some photos for inspiration.

ankle boots are a star item in spring/summer 2010 collections:
3.1 philip lim/ 3.1 philip lim/ balmain/ burberry

igor chapurin/ versace/ givenchy

alexa chung is one big devotee of the look. her beloved black, chunky ankle boots accentuate her chopstick-thin long legs, therefore her signature gamine appeal.

real-life blair waldorf olivia palermo is a huge fan aswell. with ankle boots, she adds some instant edge to her preppy, feminine, glitzy outfits.

alexa and olivia aren't the only celebs who recently sported ankle boots on bare legs.
my favorites are anja rubik with her rock star/goddess look, and rachel weisz; who combined her boots with a ladylike frock for an uber-cool finish.

anja rubik/ leighton meester/ kristen stewart/ taylor momsen

rachel weisz/ selena gomez/ whitney port/ nina garcia

and, as always, my favorite part: street style!

as soon as sun hits the town...

topshop s/s 2010 lookbook

topshop's spring/summer 2010 lookbook is told to "have something for everyone", and I certainly have to agree.

parisienne
polka dots, stripes, pearls... classics redefined. with its lighthearted, spontaneous and creative character, it's a beautiful adaptation of parisian chic style. my personal favorite of the bunch.

saloon
western saloon girl style with cowgirl references and lots of lace and frills.

meadow
channeling chanel s/s 2010's rustic references with ruffles and peasant-y florals.

downtown
reminds of alexander wang, and sometimes balmain. urban, tough, edgy, minimalistic. some gorgeous harem pants involved.

outfit of the day: this charming man

I seriously feel like morrissey in my new jean shirt & horn-rimmed nerd glasses. considering I've spent the whole fall/winter listening pretty much only to moz & the smiths, it's not that weird. oh, how I love this man. he's beyond being just a person. he's a lifestyle.
I was listening to this charming man while dressing up today and here's what I came up with. a bit moz, a bit me.

why pamper life's complexities
when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?

editorial: spring's best designer fashion

I know I need an excuse for my 3-week absence... one word: finals.

if I had to sum up my impressions on the upcoming season in a couple keywords, it would be: pastel color palette, flowy, breezy fabrics, bohemian appeal, nude colors, dishevelled textures, minimalism, 90's flair, lolita appeal, sparkles. this editorial from marie claire is a great showcase - season's bests from 13 designers.

in case you wondered, on model's nails, there's essie's mint candy apple. seems like minty green polish is here to stay!

gucci: a bit too 90's for my liking, but I like how breezy and summery it is.

lanvin: I feel like this dress is gonna be one of the star pieces of the season. it throughly satisfies the girly desires but it has a very tough, rebellious appeal at the same time. the fabric is delicious and the structure is marvelous. alber elbaz, you're a real genius.

chanel: not really a huge fan of Lagerfeld, but this one is amazing. sexy peasant! it's slightly bohemian but still very chanel. and I love the "jewelry overload" look with multiple rings & bracelets, it complements the overall look very well.

yves saint laurent

roberto cavalli

louis vuitton: I think the dress looks uber cheap. nothing special.

versace: not revolutionary, really, but still very good. great silhouette, amazing details. sexy without being slutty. versace knows women well.

donna karan: there's probably nothing else as sexy & classy as a nude-colored bandage dress, and this one sure is a decent example.

ralph lauren: this is why I love ralph lauren. very timeless, very ralph but it still reflects zeitgeist.
I want those torn cigarette pants so bad, and take note; denim shirts are gonna be big this season!
