party like it's 1962

as we approach the holiday season, everybody's eagerly hunting for the perfect party dress.
personally, I adore the retrospective-minimalist evening collection of zara for the season so much that I don't feel like looking any further. ladylike and proper, with a bit of distressed rock'n'roll twist- my thing, exactly! I've especially had my eyes on the lipstick-red dress for a while, but all of them are mouth-watering.

have you picked up anything for the season yet?

audrey moment.

seems like america ferrera is having  her very own audrey hepburn moment in new york women in film & television awards. I can't help but love everything about her look- the gorgeous little black dress, subdued peachy pink makeup, lined gazelle-like eyes, poufed half-updo- such a wonderful adaptation of breakfast at tiffany's style!
I don't say this often about people, but she seriously reminds me of my beloved audrey here. she has the elegance, grace and love in her eyes. who'd say two people physically so different would remind me of each other one day?

trend alert: boots & bare legs

one trend has been catching my eye a lot lately: chunky ankle boots worn with mini dresses and short shorts over bare legs. I love how it adds a rock chic appeal to any outfit and makes legs look sky-high. while waiting for the appropriate weather, I browsed through some photos for inspiration.

ankle boots are a star item in spring/summer 2010 collections:
3.1 philip lim/ 3.1 philip lim/ balmain/ burberry

igor chapurin/ versace/ givenchy

alexa chung is one big devotee of the look. her beloved black, chunky ankle boots accentuate her chopstick-thin long legs, therefore her signature gamine appeal.

real-life blair waldorf olivia palermo is a huge fan aswell. with ankle boots, she adds some instant edge to her preppy, feminine, glitzy outfits.

alexa and olivia aren't the only celebs who recently sported ankle boots on bare legs.
my favorites are anja rubik with her rock star/goddess look, and rachel weisz; who combined her boots with a ladylike frock for an uber-cool finish.

rachel weisz/ selena gomez/ whitney port/ nina garcia

and, as always, my favorite part: street style!

as soon as sun hits the town...

outfit of the day: I'm so fashionable it's ridiculous

this is pretty much what I've been wearing to class for days. I don't have neither the energy nor determination to glam it up nowadays, so this works for me. this is a very chilled-out and easy look, yet it gets maybe the best feedback I've got on my outfits in a while, and I feel really good in it.

let's face it: I'm a winter denier. though it's starting to be constantly quite cold and rainy here in istanbul, I've been acting like it's mid-fall and simply refusing to wear coats and other wintery stuff. no need for that, some layering, a scarf and a really warm cardigan on top saves the day for me.

I'm obsessed with my new motorcycle boots, I think I haven't worn any other shoe since I got them a week ago! I love how they add a rebel attitude to every outfit.I especially love them with denim leggings. mine are in a medium blue-gray with a washed appearance.

and lastly; belive me, big, black clear-lens wayfarers make sure you look smart and get noticed by the instructors. it works.

editorial: parisian chic, nordic spirit

this editorial by swedish fashion editor, blogger and wonder woman  caroline blomst is quite worth taking a look at.
she combined season's top items in such a distinct and stylish manner. all the shots have the particular carelessness and breeziness of a parisian but I can still feel the nordic touch behind through the tough accents and the sharp attitude. it's admirable how well she played with proportions and patterns. and it's quite helpful especially if you're still confused about how to use polka dot tights, boyfriend blazers, brogues and tight minis.

outfit of the day: pretty pissed off

I think fashion is such a good way of self-expression, rather than a tool for looking good. each morning, in front of my wardrobe, I feel like writing a story, word by word. some days it just comes out easier, and some days you have to stop and think of every detail.

this is what I wear in my not-so-right days.particularly, a biker jacket always helps expressing dissatisfaction and spleen. it really makes me feel a bit better. some sarcasm helps, too. baggy boyfriend jeans is my way of saying "I'm too tired to pay attention". I tend to go a bit stronger on eye makeup in those days.

life's not treating me well today, which makes me so childishly angry towards everything. I'm trying so hard too keep it to myself, and it just inflates the bubble.

hope your sun's shining today, though.

mmm....not so much love.
