today's inspiration: winter nudes.

.
I'll try bringing together relaxed winter neutrals today. nothing gives a monochrome, cozy nude ensemble a better twist than interesting details and a pair of indigo jeans.

outfit of the day: dare you, double denim

ever since I saw this stylish new yorker's photo at the sartorialist -I believe it was the one that started the trend-, I've been thinking about double-denim; wearing denim items both on bottom and top. a lot of times, fashion is all about falling in love with what you recently hated, but this time, it was tough to admit. all in all, we highly despised double-denim for longer than a decade. we have very bad memories of it, don't we?

I love challenge more than I should. and having seen how cool it can be when done right, it was impossible for me to avoid. but I was afraid of it at the same time, so I stepped back and silently watched what's going on for a while, and took notes how to rock this trend at its best and avoiding looking dated.

bringing together items noticeably different textures and colors than each other definitely helps, as Alexa Chung perfectly demonstrates here. another thing is that it's easier to mess up with denim jackets. denim shirts are much safer and  definitely more modern. any other double-denim tips or thoughts?

recently, I finally felt like I had the guts to try it on and went for a very masculine, retro and americana look, combining my medium-to-light washed boyfriend denim shirt with dark skinny jeans. I tucked the denim shirt in and opened the buttons up except the bottom two to show my new t-shirt with this gorgeous James Dean (circa Giant I believe) print on.

after making sure I wasn't looking like I was preserved in ice since early nineties, I completed the look with brogues, large tan tote and belt, nude-beige nails and a peachy nude lip. to add some femininity, I finished with an extra coat of mascara- what can be more girly than a fan of bambi lashes?

I left home feeling quite pleased with the result, and knowing Morrissey would appreciate the look- both in terms of double-denim and JD :)

outfit of the day: in wonderland

I wasn't too excited about the new Alice in Wonderland movie, but this tom binns for disney couture necklace got me into the mood. now all I need is some extra cash... 535 pounds to be exact.

spring finally seems to hit the town, and with the great dose of inspiration I got from the necklace, I put this outfit together.
a basic nude pink tank top creates the perfect canvas to show off the necklace. muted brigths and different textures coming together for a cheerful, spring-y, understated chic finish.

outfit of the day: this charming man

I seriously feel like morrissey in my new jean shirt & horn-rimmed nerd glasses. considering I've spent the whole fall/winter listening pretty much only to moz & the smiths, it's not that weird. oh, how I love this man. he's beyond being just a person. he's a lifestyle.
I was listening to this charming man while dressing up today and here's what I came up with. a bit moz, a bit me.

why pamper life's complexities
when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat?

outfit of the day: I'm so fashionable it's ridiculous

this is pretty much what I've been wearing to class for days. I don't have neither the energy nor determination to glam it up nowadays, so this works for me. this is a very chilled-out and easy look, yet it gets maybe the best feedback I've got on my outfits in a while, and I feel really good in it.

let's face it: I'm a winter denier. though it's starting to be constantly quite cold and rainy here in istanbul, I've been acting like it's mid-fall and simply refusing to wear coats and other wintery stuff. no need for that, some layering, a scarf and a really warm cardigan on top saves the day for me.

I'm obsessed with my new motorcycle boots, I think I haven't worn any other shoe since I got them a week ago! I love how they add a rebel attitude to every outfit.I especially love them with denim leggings. mine are in a medium blue-gray with a washed appearance.

and lastly; belive me, big, black clear-lens wayfarers make sure you look smart and get noticed by the instructors. it works.

outfit of the day: I'm throwing my arms around paris

still gentle and poetic in details, but a bit wearied, a bit desperate, a bit gloomy. perfect setting: a wednesday afternoon in paris, walking along the seine river, hands in the pockets of the blazer.
here's the soundtrack: I'm throwing my arms around paris by morrissey.

outfit of the day: half a person

I think "half a person" of the smiths has recently become my favorite song about stalking/going after someone and unfulfilled love, judging by the fact that I've been obsessively listening to it over and over for a couple days. I've never been quite interested in happy endings, anyways.
I love how it's quite entertaining and mellow, yet terribly heartbreaking on the background. oh morrissey, you make pathetic cool.

the song has even affected my taste in clothing over the week.

call me morbid, call me pale
I've spent six years on your trail
six full years of my life on your trail

and if you have five seconds to spare
then I'll tell you the story of my life :
sixteen, clumsy and shy
I went to london and I
I booked myself in at the y ... w.c.a.

I said : "I like it here - can I stay ?
I like it here - can I stay ?
do you have a vacancy
for a back-scrubber?"

the thing is; morrissey is still sixteen, clumsy and shy at heart.

outfit of the day: pretty pissed off

I think fashion is such a good way of self-expression, rather than a tool for looking good. each morning, in front of my wardrobe, I feel like writing a story, word by word. some days it just comes out easier, and some days you have to stop and think of every detail.

this is what I wear in my not-so-right days.particularly, a biker jacket always helps expressing dissatisfaction and spleen. it really makes me feel a bit better. some sarcasm helps, too. baggy boyfriend jeans is my way of saying "I'm too tired to pay attention". I tend to go a bit stronger on eye makeup in those days.

life's not treating me well today, which makes me so childishly angry towards everything. I'm trying so hard too keep it to myself, and it just inflates the bubble.

hope your sun's shining today, though.

mmm....not so much love.

outfit of the day: french chic

for this outfit, I thought of a cloudy, lazy afternoon in paris. I feel like the style called "french chic" is the perfect cross between masculine and feminine, grace & elegance and scruffines. best of the both worlds!

P.S. this post is in honor of the possibility I'll be in paris next fall! I'm doing my exchange application right now. and believe me, then I'll do some real french chic.

outfit of the day: esprit d'automne

tartan patterns, rich, warm wool textures, deep greens and occasional pops of color (particularly red) are what fall means to me, in terms of fashion. I wanted this set to have all these, and have a preppy-girly but kinda casual feeling to it.
btw, I fell hard for the coat in every single aspect, but since I don't quite have $860 at the moment, it's more like a celebrity crush.
enjoy & keep warm.
