take a bow.

after all the overwhelming whim over bow headbands over the last two years, it's hardly exciting to see one. but this photo of catherine deneuve from 60's is sure refreshing and inspiring. it's amazing how sweet the headband looks; paired with her long, back-combed bob... and of course, that face. that wonderful face.

today's inspiration: layering

is there anything cooler than layering different textures to keep warm? to punch it up, add a pop item or two, like the  patterned skirt & round-toe suede heels here in this combo. a belt will help you out with creating shape and keep the overall look from being bulky.

today's inspiration: winter nudes.

.
I'll try bringing together relaxed winter neutrals today. nothing gives a monochrome, cozy nude ensemble a better twist than interesting details and a pair of indigo jeans.

bonjour paris!

this must be one of the most exciting scenes in the history of film. three different ways of awesomeness and three different faces of paris. oh, and three different ways to look impossibly chic. what else could one ask for?

au bout du souffle

this scene is always a good one for inspiration.

angel in wool.

while stalking knit headbands even further, I just ran into the photo of this angel wearing a black one, in her lovely and genuine boho-rock way. worth considering, especially for the times you don't want to look like a prim & proper housewife from 1950's (I often do, but you know, not all the time).

knit headbands.

accompanying the gorgeous retro buns in prada f/w 2010 fashion show were cable knit headbands in shades of beige, camel, black and blue. these little beauties have such a cozy, down-to-earth but ridiculously elegant retro appeal, I think I'm obsessed! and it's something you can ask your grandma to knit for you... or knit yourself, if you're crafty enough, which I'm not.
match them to your hair or your eyes, pick a contrasting shade- it's all good.

what do you think?

camel lessons from fall runway

it's finally september and for the first time in monts I got cold today, which should give me enough excuse to do more fall posts.
I've been collecting tips on how to use camel from f/w runway shows. here you have some. enjoy!
1. to add an edge; complete a soft, feminine all-camel ensemble with a denim shirt.

learn from:
chloé

and me, of course. my way:
chloe fall

2. combine camel with gray and tomboy/menswear inspired items for a super-cool schoolgirl finish.

learn from:

my way:
camel and gray

3. keep the retro vibe alive by combining camel with shades of navy, jade, citrus and burnt orange.

I live for moments like this.

today I stumbled upon this shoot of  vivianna volpicella, vogue japan's assistant fashion editor, by jak and jil's tommy ton. divine? better than that.

leopard print: it's not what you think.

alexa chung is the cover girl l'officiel's august issue, paying homage to sixties, and with all her feline charm, to leopard prints.

what strikes me the most in this shoot is the use of leopard print. interpreted in the most unusual way; I'm amazed how leopard print gives here a very different feeling than what we're used to: retro, childlike and yes, feminine and wild but in a pristine way. apparently, it can look very cute indeed when used on the right pieces- as alexa demonstrates perfectly with the loose, girly dress and the manly hat.

this adorable new approach is a good opportunity to get over the leopard prejudice, or even phobia. that's exactly what I'm gonna do.

checking out some of her outfits from the past, I realized she does this whole leopard thing so well, in her lovely wild-granny-goes-back-to-school way.

(bonus: lovely sienna miller, also wearing leopard. not too fond of leopard jeans myself)
here are a couple looks I put together with this on mind:

cropped jeans, a boatneck and too-cute-to-be-true leopard flats- voila, you're audrey hepburn. plus, shoes are always a good place to start from.

show your wild side with just a dash of leopard print. you can tone it down with loose, slouchy elements.

scratch my name on your arm with a fountain pen (this means you really love me)

it hasn't always been this way, but the idea of getting a tattoo has been growing on me, immensely.
particularly (or maybe even solely) tattoos consisting of words- it marks your identity and existence as an intellectual being, they will be there to remind you what you want to remember, day and night, and I'm absolutely in love with the possibility of being attached to some particular words so strongly that you want to carry them on your body forever and ever. and yes, there are a couple I can think of as being in that position for me.

I recently discovered a blog called tattoologist and it must be the most amazing resource for tatto inspiration- here are some examples that struck me.

do you have any tattoos at the moment, or planning to get any?

...it won't be long.

hey lovelies, long time no see- I haven't written here in longer than a month, and it's kind of shameful of course. I was pretty busy trying to get my life on track, and I'm not completely sure I succeeded (oh, what a mess), but anyway, here I am!

let me telly you that some exciting posts are coming soon- inspiration is gushing out of my brain. I want to write more about nudes (which I've been pretty obsessed with), florals and maritime chic. seems like summer's gonna be all about these for me. also, nowadays I'm really keen on an oldschool nerd style with a twist, and a post about that would be really nice, too.

and, big news: expect a live broadcast of Dublin street fashion (yes, heading to Éire soon!).

 photos from audrey hepburn complex

you should see this: my favorite things in the world combined- moon river, audrey hepburn, and morrissey. I've always loved him, but I think this was the video that got me so much into mozzer. I was stunned by how well he understands it- that was about a year ago.  now I barely listen to anyone else. actually, even less than "barely".

boudoir chic

possibly the best interpretation of spring's underwear as outerwear trend. it's all about balancing, baby!

inspiration: new nudes

contrasting the neutrality and softness of nude colors with rich textures, crystals, ruffles, generous accesorizing- now that's beautiful.
